Miguel Almiron has said he was ‘happy’ to finally make his Newcastle United debut in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield this afternoon.
Almiron became the most expensive signing in Newcastle‘s history last month, joining the Magpies on transfer deadline day from MLS side Atlanta United in a deal worth £21 million.
However, he has been forced to wait three weeks to make his debut due to a gap in Newcastle’s fixture list, but finally made his Premier League bow in front of an excited and expectant St James’ Park crowd.
While the Paraguay international will face tougher tests than he faced today against bottom side Huddersfield Town, he still put in an impressive display, and speaking after the game Almiron said he was happy to finally make his debut.
“I am happy for my debut but even more for the three points. I really enjoy the environment here,” he told Sky Sports.
“It was a shame I could not score – it was a great chance. I had a few chances but the most important thing was that we got the win.”
Speaking about his new teammate, goalscorer Ayoze Perez said he was looking forward to linking up with the playmaker.
“Miguel [Almiron] can make a massive difference – he is a quality player. I hope we can link up well in the future,” said Perez.
