Former Everton and West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has been left ‘staggered and shocked’ by Chelsea’s decision to loan January signing Christian Pulisic back to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

20-year-old America international Pulisic was signed by Chelsea for £57 million at the start of the January transfer window but was immediately loaned back to the Bundesliga leaders for the remainder of the current campaign.

However, the Stamford’s Bridge clubs decision to allow Pulisic to stay in Germany has left 64-year-old former England boss Allardyce dismayed.

“I am staggered and shocked,” Allardyce told Sky Sports News.

“What if he does an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] over there?

“You invest that much money and then you have the settling in period… next season, who knows, he might come in and struggle.”
