Alexis Sanchez has revealed he wants Belgium to win the World Cup this summer because of his close friendship with one of the key players in the Red Devils camp.
It has been a pretty sensational tournament over in Russia, with Germany not making it out of the group stages, and the like of Argentina, Portugal and Spain all crashing out in the first round of knockout stages.
Despite some of the big names having failed to progress, there are still the likes of Brazil, France, Uruguay and Belgium still left in the running.
However, with Chile not even making it to this year’s edition of the World Cup, Manchester United winger Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he wants Belgium to win due to the relationship he has already struck up with United striker Romelu Lukaku:
“I feel angry not to go, we could have been there, but I want Belgium to be world champion for my friend Lukaku,” Sanchez told Fox Sports.
“He is fine, on fire, I hope he is the World Cup top goalscorer.
“We are talking every day on WhatsApp, we go everywhere together [in England], we talk about what the team lacks.
“We get along very well. I think Belgium will be world champion.”
Lukaku has scored four goals so far, second only to England’s Harry Kane in the race for the golden boot.
Belgium face Japan in the last-16 with a potential tie against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
