Solskjaer backs Sanchez to prove doubters wrong amid Manchester United recall rumours

Just when you thought Alexis Sanchez’s Manchester United career was well and truly over, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tipped the forward to prove everyone wrong when he comes back to the club in the summer.

Sanchez was one of the biggest movers in the January transfer window back in 2018, swapping Arsenal for Manchester United with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going in the opposite direction.

The Chilean had developed a reputation as one of the Premier League‘s finest players during his three-and-a-half-year spell at the Emirates, though his move to Old Trafford saw a drastic downturn in form, netting just five goals in 45 appearances for the club before being shipped out on loan to Inter Milan last summer.

United decided not to replace Sanchez in the summer, though with Marcus Rashford suffering a serious back injury, the club have since been linked with bolstering their attacking options in the January transfer market, as well as strengthening in midfield.

However, with just three days remaining of the January transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjer insisted he had information to offer on potential arrivals and highlighting the difficulty of recruiting in the winter window.

“I haven’t got any updates for you on transfers,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference. “I haven’t got anything to say now.

“If there is something out there, then the club are pursuing that and looking at it. It is difficult this window – it’s always been. I can’t remember how many good deals that we’ve brought in in January.

“Henrik (Larsson)… Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra) – they were two good ones. It’s hard, it’s very hard because the clubs don’t want to lose their best players.”

Reports in the Daily Star on Tuesday morning reported that United were planning on giving Sanchez ‘another chance’, and when asked, Solskjaer seemed to suggest that the reports were correct.

“Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong,” Solskjaer insisted.

United face Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday night in the second-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, Pep Guardiola’s side having beaten the Red Devils 3-1 earlier this month.
