Alexander Isak admitted Liverpool need to improve as a team after coming from behind to beat Brentford on Saturday.
The Bees were the better side for large stretches of the game at the Gtech Community Stadium and took a deserved lead through Keane Lewis-Potter late in the first half.
But the west London outfit were reduced to ten men on the stroke of halftime when Yehor Yarmolyuk headbutted Jeremy Jacquet.
Victor Munoz levelled matters on the hour mark before Isak fired Liverpool into the lead in the 70th minute.
Brentford pushed hard for an equaliser despite their disadvantage, though their chances were all but extinguished in added time when Vitaly Janelt was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Liverpool have now won four of their last five games in all competitions and sit fifth in the Premier League table, but their performances have been far from convincing.
Alexander Isak admits Liverpool ‘still have lots to improve’
“Super happy with the win,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a tough ground, it’s a tough team to play especially away from home. We knew it was going to be a bit of a scrappy game and it’s important to come out on top.
“It was about concentration. I didn’t have too many chances and was waiting for my moment. I just tried to get control of the ball and finish as quickly as possible. Luckily it went in.
“When they go a man down and they protect their goal a bit more, there’s not much space to play. You’ve got to be ready for when your chance pops up.
“Us from the bench were screaming for the team to keep the ball and just play out the game. It’s different from the side. Myself, if I saw a great opportunity I probably would have wanted to score. Maybe in those situations we just have to be a bit more safe.
“I think there’s still lots to improve. We’re taking steps and we’re grabbing points on the way which is important. It’s a tough place to come so three points is really good.”
