Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is an option for Arsenal this summer as the Gunners look to sign a centre-forward.
Mikel Arteta has made the signing of a number nine his focus for the summer transfer window and Arsenal are currently shortlisting potential options.
The north Londoners are believed to have cooled their interest in signing Brentford forward Ivan Toney, though are considering a raid on Premier League rivals Newcastle for Isak, according to Football Insider.
The Magpies are under pressure to make a significant sale in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and Isak is among the club’s most valuable assets.
The Sweden international has impressed since arriving from Real Sociedad for a club-record £63m in 2022 and has scored 22 goals in 34 league starts in the Premier League.
Fitness problems have plagued the 24-year-old, though his age, profile and experience of English football make Isak an ideal option to spearhead the Arsenal side.
Arsenal are also assessing a potential deal for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has a release clause of €100m (£85m) in his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Signed from Coventry City last summer, the Swede has recorded 50 goal involvements in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.
An international teammate of Isak’s with Sweden, no player in Europe’s top seven leagues has been directly involved in more goals than the 25-year-old. He has scored 36 times and provided 14 assists for the Portuguese side.
