Alexander-Arnold insists Liverpool must be perfect in title run-in

Trent Alexander-Arnold has insisted Liverpool must win each of their final five games to have any chance of winning the Premier League this season.

The Reds bounced back from last weekend’s setback against Crystal Palace to reignite their title challenge at Fulham, with Alexander-Arnold opening the scoring with a fabulous free-kick.

Having allowed Harvey Elliott to take a tame set-piece moments earlier, the right-back pulled rank and executed a wonderful effort into the top corner.

Timothy Castagne levelled for Fulham in first-half stoppage time, but the Reds regrouped after the break with Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota securing a much-changed XI a vital three points.

Alexander-Arnold was pleased with the performance from his team after testing recent results, including a Europa League exit in midweek. He said Liverpool, who moved level on points with Arsenal at the summit, must be perfect from now until the end of the campaign to have a chance of being crowned champions,

“It’s been a very tough couple of weeks – a bad run of games, bad run of form, bad run of results – so it’s good to be able to turn that and flip that on its head,” he said to Sky Sports.

“It was important for us to do that. We knew going into this that we had six games left where we feel as if we have to win every single one to stand a chance to win anything. So it was an important game and there are five more now.

“It’s going to be a difficult week with two more away games but we’re confident that if we can replicate what we did today then we should be able to get results. We have to expect five wins from five now to even stand a chance of being able to pick up silverware in a few weeks.

“It’s exciting, though. You’ve got three teams who are playing outstanding football and I think, for a neutral, it’s got to be one of the most exciting seasons. It’s very rare you see a three-horse title race and I’m certainly enjoying it, as much pressure as there is. But these are the games you love to play in and they are the ones that matter the most.”
