Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has confirmed that the club are interested in re-signing Manchester United defender Daley Blind.
Blind moved to Manchester United from Ajax back in 2014, joining fellow Dutch coach Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford having worked together at the World Cup earlier that summer.
He became in integral part of the Dutchman’s squad, making 85 appearances under LVG, but has seen his involvement drop under his successor Jose Mourinho, making just 56 further appearances under the Portuguese boss.
He has been linked with a return to the Johan Cruyff Arena this summer, and now former centre-back and current Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has confirmed his interest:
“[He is] a player with a lot of experience, in the Premier League and in the Dutch national team,” said Ten Hag.
“He is a stable personality. Just like the arrival of Dusan Tadic, this also counts as a considerable effort of the club. We are doing everything, but it also depends on other parties.”
Blind’s has played in a number of positions for Inited, initially in central midfield, before being more recently utilised in central defence and as a left-back, with Ten Hag admitting his versatility is a bonus:
“He can handle both positions well, both as a central defender and as a controlling midfielder,” the Ajax boss said.
However he admitted that the potential arrival of will is likely to depend on Ajax’s pursuit of Boca Juniors central defender Lisandro Magallan.
When asked about Magallan, Ten Hag said: “He is still in the picture, but whether he actually arrives is still unclear.
“It will be either one of Magallan or Blind. Both of them do not seem realistic.”
