Sergio Aguero can break the long-standing Premier League goalscoring record set by Alan Shearer according to his teammate Bernardo Silva.
The Manchester City striker has been in clinical form this season, scoring five Premier League goals already after just seven games, helping the champions climb back to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of Liverpool.
His latest goal came in the 2-0 defeat of Brighton at the weekend, and speaking after the match, Bernardo Silva reckons that he has the quality to go on and reach Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 Premier League goals.
“I think he can reach it,” said Silva. “He’s got the potential.
“Every season he keeps scoring more and more. We hope he can keep helping us winning more titles in Manchester.”
The 30-year-old’s latest goal for the Citizens brought him level with the 148 goals that Shearer scored during his time at Newcastle, although he still needs a further 112 EPL goals to match the former England strikers overall achievement after he scored for both Southampton and Blackburn during his time.
“Sergio is the best scorer in Manchester City’s history,” added Silva.
“He’s a legend not only for Manchester City but also for the Premier League, if not the best striker in the world then one of the best.
“You have to admire players that score 30 goals and next season they don’t rest, they want to score 30 or 40 again. We have to admire that and be happy to have him and enjoy it.
“If he reaches that level it will be even better because everyone knows how important Alan Shearer was for English football and for the Premier League.”
