AC Milan will aim to recover from their midweek European setback as they travel to face Genoa in their next Serie A fixture on Sunday.
Milan arrive fifth in the Serie A table with 21 points, having shown uneven form across competitions. Ruben Amorim’s team recently secured an impressive 3-1 win in the derby against Inter Milan and followed it with a 2-0 away victory over Udinese. However, those results contrast with a 4-2 home defeat to Bologna in the league, as well as disappointing Europa League losses to Bournemouth, 3-0, and Ferencváros, 2-0. Despite the inconsistency, the Rossoneri have yet to lose away from home in Serie A this season.
AC Milan team news
Milan head to Genoa dealing with a major defensive injury problem, with seven first-team players unavailable for Sunday’s league match.
Centre-back Strahinja Pavlović is the newest absence after suffering severe stomach cramps and ongoing shoulder discomfort. He joins defenders Fikayo Tomori and Matteo Gabbia on the sidelines, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Alexis Saelemaekers, Samuel Chukwueze, and goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano.
On a brighter note, club captain Mike Maignan returns in goal after missing Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Ferencváros through suspension.
Manager Ruben Amorim is likely to bring back several rested starters, including Luka Modrić, Christian Pulisic, Mario Gila, and Diego Moreira. With Tomori, Gabbia, and Pavlović all out, young defender Sankhoun Diawara is expected to start at centre-back next to Koni De Winter. Meanwhile, Pervis Estupiñán and Davide Bartesaghi are competing for the left-back spot.
AC Milan predicted lineup
Possible AC Milan starting XI: Maignan; Gila, De Winter, Diawara, Estupiñán; Musah, Modric; Moreira, Rabiot, Pulisic; Ramos
When will the match kick off?
