AC Milan vs Bologna – Match preview and team news
- Date: Wednesday, 28th October.
- Kick-off: 5:30pm BST.
- Venue: San Siro, Milan.
AC Milan team news
AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim faces a major selection crisis ahead of tonight’s clash, with up to eight first-team players missing or in serious doubt.
The biggest blow is Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is ruled out for a month with a thigh injury sustained against Udinese.
He joins Samuel Chukwueze, Mattia Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers, and Filippo Terracciano on the completely sidelined list. Furthermore, Adrien Rabiot, Diego Moreira, and Mario Gila remain major doubts after missing the weekend fixture.
With a massive city derby against Inter Milan looming on Saturday, Amorim is highly likely to protect his surviving stars. Veteran midfielder Luka Modrić is expected to be rested on the bench, while talisman Christian Pulisic could also see restricted minutes.
In his place, starlet Alphadjo Cissé is heavily tipped to start in the attacking line behind target man Gonçalo Ramos, drastically shifting Milan’s usual tactical shape.
Bologna team news
Bologna, managed by Raffaele Palladino, arrive at the San Siro in a much healthier position, looking to build on their confident 2-0 victory over Cagliari.
The visitors are dealing with only three definitive absences, as star winger Riccardo Orsolini remains out with a hamstring problem, full-back Emil Holm is sidelined, and striker Roberto Piccoli misses out due to a muscular issue.
Young forward Jay Enem faces a late fitness check but is unlikely to start. In Piccoli’s absence, Jens Odgaard will continue to spearhead the frontline.
Palladino is expected to name former Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega in the starting lineup alongside Lewis Ferguson to provide steel in central midfield.
Additionally, Samuel Mbangula is tipped to replace Nicolò Cambiaghi in the attacking trio, supporting Odgaard alongside Federico Bernardeschi as Bologna aims to exploit a depleted Rossoneri squad.
Form
AC Milan
AC Milan remains one of only four undefeated teams in Serie A this season, boasting five wins and three draws from their opening eight matches. Under Ruben Amorim, their league form is excellent, highlighted by a confident 2-0 away victory over Udinese last Sunday. Although they suffered a painful 3-0 midweek setback against Bournemouth in the Europa League, the Rossoneri are incredibly formidable at the San Siro, maintaining a perfect home record this term.
Bologna
Bologna has experienced a highly erratic season under new manager Raffaele Palladino, currently languishing in 13th place with eight points. Their recent five-match run reflects this fluctuation, consisting of two wins, one draw, and two defeats. They enter this fixture with confidence, however, following a crucial 2-0 away win against Cagliari. Despite struggles in front of goal, that result successfully steadied the ship after a heavy 3-1 home defeat to Inter Milan.
Predicted lineups
AC Milan: Maignan; Tomori, De Winter, Pavlovic, Bartesaghi; Hutchinson, Jashari, Musah, Cisse; Pulisic, Ramos
Bologna: Skorupski; Darmian, Casale, Theate; Zortea, Ferguson, Pobega, Miranda; Bernardeschi, Odgaard, Cambiaghi
