Phil Foden admits he doesn’t want to see David Silva leave Manchester City next summer, hailing him as a ‘special player’.
The Spanish international has announced his plans to leave the Premier League champions next summer, bringing an end to a 10-year career at the Etihad which has seen the midfielder play a key role in four title-winning sides.
Silva is regarded by some as Man City‘s greatest ever player, though it is hoped that highly-rated academy graduate Foden can develop into the player to replace the 33-year-old.
Foden has praised Silva as a special player, with the 19-year-old admitting he doesn’t want to see the El Mago leave the club.
“It’s going to be a shame,” Foden said following Wednesday’s 6-1 win over Kitchee in Hong Kong.
“I’m not thinking about that too much because I don’t want it to happen. He’s here now so let’s try and be happy.
“He’s still a great player, you could see on Wednesday how sharp he is even at the age he is. He’s still a special player.”
