Five down, 33 to go. The Premier League table is starting to take shape and players starting to play themselves into form.
Here is the best XI players from Gameweek 5 of the 2018/19 Premier League season.
Joe Hart – Burnley
The Clarets may have slumped to the bottom of the table after losing their fourth game of the season against Wolves, but their 1-0 defeat could have been much more if it weren’t for Joe Hart, who pulled off a number of saves against the newly promoted side who had 30, yes THIRTY, attempts on goal.
Kyle Walker – Manchester City
Got forward at every opportunity as always as City out new boys Fulham to the sword.
Shane Duffy – Brighton
Excellent performance at the back once again, making six clearances including one off the line, as well as winning 11 of his 12 aerial battles. Went on to score a crucial goal to make the scores 2-1 before Glenn Murray popped up to score a late equaliser for the Seagulls.
Chris Smalling – Manchester United
Nine clearances, and won a number of aerial battles against Watford’s physical side, as well as turning into peak Cristiano Ronaldo with a fine finish which turned out to be the winner.
Lucas Digne – Everton
Despite the disappointing defeat, the former Barcelona left-back put in a good performance for the Toffees, putting in a number of top-drawer crosses, only for Everton’s forward line to do little with them.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg – Southampton
Opened the scoring for the Saints, putting in a decent performance from his midfield base, winning six of his nine duels and completing 64 passes.
Ryan Fraser – Bournemouth
Continued his fine start to the Premier League season with a top performance for the Cherries, scoring two and assisting another of their four goals against Leicester.
James Maddison – Leicester City
Another top performer from Leicester’s new number 10, who scored his second Premier League goal from the spot as he continues to stake a claim for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad.
Raheem Sterling – Manchester City
Despite his contract dispute, Sterling continued his fine form for City, scoring one and proving a constant nuisance for the Fulham back line.
Olivier Giroud – Chelsea
Two assists for the Frenchman left Eden Hazard claiming that Giroud was the best target man in the world. It might be a bit of a stretch, but he certainly put in a shift against Cardiff.
Eden Hazard – Chelsea
Three goals and simply sublime. On his day he has to be one of the best in the Premier League…?
