Spurs reportedly “rebuffed” approaches from both Chelsea and Aston Villa into a potential deal for Lucas Bergvall in the January transfer window.Â
The 20-year-old has made 71 appearances in all competitions since joining Tottenham from Djurgardens in June 2024.
The Sweden international played a key role in the club’s UEFA Europa League triumph last season under Ange Postecoglou, but played less frequently under Thomas Frank, who was sacked earlier this week.
Spurs ‘face battle’ following Bergvall transfer enquiries from Chelsea and Aston Villa
According to The Athletic, Bergvall’s situation “alerted suitors”, including Chelsea and Villa, both of whom made “direct contact with Spurs to establish whether a potential opportunity existed”.
However, the Lilywhites “made clear” that they have no interest in selling the youngster at this moment in time. But they may “face a battle” to hold onto him in the summer.
The report adds that Villa called Spurs after the north London outfit pipped them to the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid last month. Chelsea, meanwhile, made their enquiry “around the time” they were also mulling over a move for Douglas Luiz, who ended up returning to Villa on loan from Juventus.
Bergvall, who is currently sidelined by an ankle injury, is contracted until the summer of 2031.
