Postecoglou reveals four transfer targets he missed at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has said he wanted to sign Pedro Neto, Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi during his time at Tottenham.

The Australian opened up on his Spurs spell to The Overlap podcast this week and criticised the club’s ownership for a lack of ambition.

Having led the side to fifth in his debut season, Spurs struggled badly in his following season to end the campaign 17th. As a result, Postecoglou was sacked despite winning the Europa League.

He has now said how a lack of backing was to blame and revealed the four targets that he had wanted to bring to North London.

“We had to sign Premier League ready players. Finishing fifth that year didn’t get us Champions League so we didn’t have the money.

“We ended up Dom Solanke, who I was absolutely really keen on signing, I really like him, and three teenagers. I was looking at Pedro Neto, (Bryan) Mbeumo, (Antoine) Semenyo, Marc Guehi. If we’re going to go from fifth, that’s what the other big clubs would do in that moment.

“Those three teenagers are outstanding players, and I’ll think they’ll be great players for Tottenham, but they’re not going to get you from fifth to fourth or third.”
