Arteta: Arsenal ‘have been waiting years’ for a cup final

Arsenal have reached the League Cup final after beating Chelsea 4-2 on aggregate at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kai Havertz scored on the counter-attack deep into added time as the Blues poured numbers forward in search of a winner late on.

It’s the first time the Gunners have reached a final since winning the FA Cup during Mikel Arteta’s first season in charge back in 2020.

The Arsenal manager says the team are going to enjoy the moment as they prepare to face either Manchester City or Newcastle United in the decider at Wembley on 22nd March.

“Did I enjoy it? Very much, especially at the end,” Arteta told ITV1 after the full-time whistle.

“We knew it was going to be a real battle out there. That resilience, that clarity to understand what kind of game we had to play… we did that so well.

“There was a special atmosphere inside our stadium. It makes such a difference. We’ve been waiting a few years to get into this position and we’re certainly going to enjoy it.”
