Borussia Dortmund vs FC Heidenheim – Predicted lineup and team news

Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to respond after their European setback in midweek when they host relegation-threatened FC Heidenheim at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.

The Bundesliga side is still licking its wounds from a 2-0 loss to Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, but will view this fixture as an ideal opportunity to get back on track.

Before that defeat against Inter, Niko Kovac’s team had put together an excellent run of domestic results. They won against Union Berlin 3-0 away from home, having already edged St. Pauli at Signal Iduna Park and brushed aside Werder Bremen.

Dortmund are currently unbeaten in 12 Bundesliga matches and have found the net at least three times in each of their last four league games.

Borussia Dortmund team news

In terms of personnel, Dortmund’s squad is in reasonably good shape, though Kovac may still need to tweak his selection for this clash. Centre-back Waldemar Anton is a doubt due to illness, while midfielder Marcel Sabitzer (calf problem) is still working his way back to full fitness after missing the Champions League tie with Inter Milan.

Should those players miss out, Gregor Kobel is expected to line up behind a back three of Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini, with Julian Ryerson and Daniel Svensson operating as wing-backs.

In central midfield, Jobe Bellingham and Felix Nmecha are likely to start, with Maximilian Beier and one of Karim Adeyemi or Julian Brandt providing support in the advanced roles. Up front, Serhou Guirassy – who has scored six goals in 18 appearances this season – is set to spearhead the attack.
