Frank reveals failed Tottenham move to sign Antoine Semenyo

Thomas Frank has said Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Antoine Semenyo this month, ahead of facing the winger this weekend.

Spurs take on Manchester City in the Premier League with Semenyo set to line up in opposition. The winger joined the Citizens from Bournemouth earlier this month and has made a positive start at the Etihad.

Semenyo has scored three goals in four games for his new side and Frank has revealed that Spurs tried to convince the player to move to North London.

“I can promise that the Lewis family is super committed to this project. They want to do everything,” Frank said on the club’s ownership.

“It was clear, there is no doubt, that the club wanted to sign [Antoine] Semenyo. They did everything and I think that is a clear signal that the Lewis family is very committed.

“That’s a big signing, with finances and all that. That’s the quality of players we are looking for to improve the squad.”

Tottenham have brought in Conor Gallagher and Souza this month, while holding talks with Liverpool for Andy Robertson. Frank said Spurs will only sign players this month if it’s the ‘right decision’ and suggested further business may wait until the summer.

“If we can’t find that [quality of player we are after in January] then it is definitely better to take the right decision.

“I am sure that for whatever reason if we are not able to get another player in this window then for the summer it is a big summer ahead and we will see big improvements there.”
