Celtic make approach to sign West Ham striker

Celtic have made an approach to sign West Ham striker Callum Wilson, who is free to leave the club this month.

Wilson joined West Ham on a free transfer from Newcastle in the summer and has scored four Premier League goals in 17 appearances, just eight of which have come from the start.

The recent January additions of Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos mean Wilson has been deemed surplus to requirements with several clubs interested.

Celtic are now exploring a potential deal. Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that the Scottish champions are keen to gauge Wilson’s wage demands and interest in a move to Glasgow.

Celtic are keen to bolster their forward line under Martin O’Neill and view Wilson as a good fit for the squad.

However, the Scottish champions could face competition from Saudi Arabia. Al-Ettifaq and Al-Shabab both explored a deal in the summer and the latter retain interest, if Wilson is open to a move to the Middle East. West Ham are likely to let Wilson leave on a free with a mutual termination being discussed.
