Premier League Awards: Record-breaker Barnes, Semenyo’s signs off

Our Premier League Awards celebrate the best – and worst – of the midweek action, featuring Harvey Barnes and Antoine Semenyo.
Moment of the Week

What a moment, what a game!

Harvey Barnes wrote himself into the record books this week with the latest-ever winning goal in the Premier League. Barnes’ brilliant swivel and finish secured Newcastle a thrilling 4-3 comeback win against Leeds United at St James’ Park, in of of the games of the season – if not Premier League era.

The 28-year-old’s last-gasp goal was timed at 101 minutes and 48 seconds, following a lengthy period of added time.

Limbs, everywhere.

Player of the Week

Last summer saw several stars throw their toys out of the pram to push for transfers. Alexander Isak and Yoane Wissa both successfully sulked their way to new clubs, a contrast to Antoine Semenyo’s conduct in recent weeks.

Every man and his dog has known Semenyo will leave Bournemouth in January, with his fine form and considerable admirers making a transfer inevitable. The 26-year-old completed his £62.5m move to Manchester City on Friday, but not before a perfect farewell on the South Coast.

Semenyo scored a stoppage-time winner for Bournemouth against Spurs, choosing to represent the Cherries despite the risk of an injury that could scupper his switch to City. Bournemouth will not forget his contribution or conduct.

Goal of the Week

Joao Palhinha doesn’t score many goals, but when he does, they tend to be memorable.

The Portugal midfielder produced this outrageous overhead kick out of nowhere during Tottenham’s clash with Bournemouth this week.

Save of the Week

Bournemouth’s win over Tottenham was packed with unmissable action, including our Save of the Week winner.

Djordje Petrovic needed to be at full stretch to tip away Micky van de Ven’s header.

Stat of the Week

Penalties tend to favour the shooter, but that’s not been the case when Caoimhín Kelleher has been in goal. The Irishman has incredibly saved four of the six spot-kicks he’s faced as a Premier League goalkeeper, after calling Enzo Le Fee’s Panenka bluff in midweek.

Excluding shootouts, he’s now saved eight penalties in his career, including stops on international duty from Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Quote of the Week

There’s no love lost between Roy Keane and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Over two decades from his explosive exit from Old Trafford, Keane has not softened his stance towards the Scot. He’s rarely been afraid of taking aim at Ferguson, including this classic Keane quip criticising Ferguson’s ongoing influence at then club.

“You still have [Sir Alex] Ferguson & David Gill hanging around like a bad smell. Who is making the decisions at Man Utd? [Sir Jim] Ratcliffe, Wilcox. You [to Gary Neville] have interviewed managers.”

A week to forget for…

Malick Thiaw. The German centre-back has barely put a foot wrong since signing for Newcastle last summer, emerging as one of the signings of the season. It appears Thiaw saved up all his mistakes for one game, after a forgettable night against Leeds.

The defender was robbed of possession for Leeds’ opener, received a yellow card for a rash tackle, and conceded a penalty with a bizarre handball. He was hooked at half-time after a nightmare night.

A performance perhaps best summed up below. If you know, you know.
