Arteta suggests Arsenal could make January signings

Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal will be ‘actively looking’ at potential signings in the January transfer window.

The transfer window for Premier League clubs opens on Thursday and Arsenal are set to assess the market for additions.

Arsenal are currently without defensive options including Cristhian Mosquera, Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, with Declan Rice deputising at right-back during the weekend win over Brighton.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Maghalaes and Kai Havertz have also faced significant spells out this season.

Despite spending around £250m in the summer on eight new players, Arteta suggested further signings could be made at the Emirates next month, as the club look to compete on multiple fronts.

“We’re going to be really aware of the situation and the timescale of certain players (returning from injury),” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Aston Villa.

“We have to be actively looking, and then can we do it or not?

“That’s a different story, but our job is to be always very prepared because something can happen.”
