Newcastle United XI vs Bayer Leverkusen – Predicted lineup and team news

Newcastle United travel to Germany on Wednesday knowing a win could propel them into the automatic qualification spots for the Champions League Round of 16.

Recently, Eddie Howe’s side found form domestically as they took seven points from their last three games. However, they must overcome a poor away record in Europe to secure a result at the BayArena. Unfortunately, the Magpies won just one of their five Champions League away games since they returned to the competition.

Despite this, their attack remains potent since Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes sit in goalscoring form. Moreover, they boast a history of fast starts in this season’s tournament. Therefore, they hope to replicate this trait against a Leverkusen side that comes off a league defeat.

Newcastle United team news

Notably, Eddie Howe remains without first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope. As a result, Aaron Ramsdale will continue to deputise. In defence, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall should start as full-backs to flank a central partnership of Fabian Schär and Malick Thiaw.

Crucially, Bruno Guimarães will anchor the midfield alongside Sandro Tonali and Joelinton. Up front, Nick Woltemade looks set to lead the line. Furthermore, Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga will support him while Yoane Wissa provides a dangerous option from the bench.
