Celtic vs Dundee FC – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Wednesday, 3rd December.
  • Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
  • Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow.

Celtic team news

Celtic face a selection challenge heading into Wednesday’s fixture with several key players unavailable. Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers remains sidelined following the Achilles injury sustained during the Europa League match against Sturm Graz on 23 October, with interim manager Martin O’Neill confirming he will not return until April at the earliest and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Winger Jota continues his recovery from an ACL injury suffered in May, with his return expected to extend into 2026.

Right-back Alistair Johnston has also been ruled out with an injury picked up in the same Sturm Graz encounter. Midfielder Callum Osmond is also out until March with his hamstring injury.

However, Celtic’s management situation has been clarified with interim boss Martin O’Neill confirming that Wednesday’s match will be his final game in charge before Wilfried Nancy officially takes over. The Columbus Crew manager will assume responsibility following the match, with O’Neill reflecting on his remarkable achievement of winning six of his seven matches since taking over after Brendan Rodgers’ resignation on 27 October.

Dundee FC team news

Dundee have reported no injuries or suspensions ahead of their trip to Parkhead, giving manager Steven Pressley a fully fit squad to choose from. This represents a significant boost as the Dees look to cause an upset at Celtic Park following their impressive 3-1 comeback victory over St Mirren on 29 November.

Form

Celtic

Martin O’Neill’s side have been the model of consistency since his appointment, winning four consecutive league games with their most recent triumph coming away at Hibernian on 29 November.

The 2-1 victory at Easter Road was built on a devastating first-half display, with Daizen Maeda opening the scoring in the 27th minute before Arne Engels doubled the lead just a minute later in the 28th, heading in a cross from Hyun-Jun Yang. Martin Boyle’s penalty in the 56th minute proved merely a consolation for the hosts.

Dundee’s recent resurgence was marked by an impressive 3-1 comeback victory over St Mirren at Dens Park. Trailing after Mikael Mandron put the Buddies ahead midway through the first half, the Dees responded immediately with an own goal from Alex Gogic just two minutes later equalising matters. Drey Wright then struck a stunning shot late in the first half to make it 2-1, before Joe Westley added a superb third in the 87th minute with a glorious curling effort from 22 yards.

This victory ended Dundee’s four-game losing streak, marking their third victory of the season. However, the Dees remain in ninth place in the table with 12 points from 14 matches, sitting just four points above the bottom of the pile. But they will be motivated against Celtic as the last time they won a match was against Celtic on 19th October (2-0).

Predicted lineups

Celtic: Schmeichel; Donovan, Trusty, Scales, Saracchi; Engels, McGregor, Hatate; McCowan, Maeda, Hyun-Jun.

Dundee: McCracken; Astley, Graham, Robertson, Wright; Congreve, Westley, Dhanda, Hamilton, Yogane; Murray.
