Premier League Awards: Awesome Eze, Liverpool reach new low

Our Premier League Awards honour the best – and worst – of the weekend action, featuring the North London Derby and Liverpool’s latest low.

Moment of the Week

Liverpool’s title defence appears in tatters, with the champions reaching a new low this weekend. A humbling home defeat to Nottingham Forest has left Liverpool 11th in the table, having lost six of their last seven in the Premier League. It’s an astonishing decline for the Reds, who opened the season with five straight wins.

Before the break, Manchester City became the first team in 44 games to stop Liverpool scoring, but Arne Slot’s side drew another blank at Anfield. Record recruit Alexander Isak was given the nod at centre-forward, but is still awaiting his first league goal as Forest held firm and deserved their win.

If the alarm bells weren’t ringing before this weekend, they certainly are now. Liverpool look lost, and a shadow of the side that comfortably won the Premier League last season.

Player of the Week

Eberechi Eze was at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war in the summer, with Arsenal beating North London rivals Tottenham to his signature. It was perhaps fate then that Eze was at the centre of the first derby of the season

Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the table after thrashing Tottenham 4-1 at the Emirates, with a terrific treble from Eze the difference. After Leandro Trossard’s opener, some fine footwork made an opening to lash in his first to double Arsenal’s lead.

A second arrived with a fine finish, before an even better claimed the match ball in a history-making moment.

Never before has a player scored a hat-trick in a Premier League North London Derby.

Goal of the Week

Some strike, this.

Up, down, and past Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri in a flash. A fantastic free-kick from Morgan Rogers, to earn Aston Villa an important three points at Elland Road.

Save of the Week

Alphonse Areola had a game to remember against Bournemouth. A clean sheet avoided the Frenchman in an entertaining 2-2 draw, but the West Ham ‘keeper claimed an assist and our Save of the Week award.

Wrong-footed up against Eli Junior Kroupi from close range, a lightning reaction saw Areola stick out a leg to divert the forward’s effort round the post.

Stat of the Week

Enzo is thriving under Enzo at Chelsea.

We’re fans of quirky stats and this is a belter.

Credit the Opta boffins for this, just who works this out?
