Manchester United make decision on Casemiro future

Manchester United are prepared to offer Casemiro a contract extension but would require the midfielder to significantly reduce his salary.

Casemiro’s current contract is due to expire in the summer and the veteran has already received substantial proposals from rival clubs, particularly from the Middle East.

The 33-year-old has endured an up-and-down time at Manchester United since joining from Real Madrid for a fee of £70m in 2022, but has regained favour and form under Ruben Amorim.

United are keen to tie the five-time Champions League winner down to new terms, but would need Casemiro to significantly reduce his current £350,000-a-week wages.

He is the highest earner at Old Trafford and the Red Devils’ new ownership want any extension to put the Brazilian on reduced terms, according to talkSPORT.

Casemiro has three goals and an assist in nine Premier League starts this season and has cemented a role as Amorim’s first-choice defensive midfielder.

He now faces a decision on whether to continue with the project, or take up a potentially more lucrative deal elsewhere. Saudi Pro League sides are monitoring his situation closely.

United are set to take a similar stance with Harry Maguire, whose deal is also due to expire. The experience of the England centre-back is valued, however, and a new deal is being discussed on lower terms.
