Celtic will host Kilmarnock this Sunday at Celtic Park in an important Scottish Premiership fixture for both sides.
The home side will be eager to recover from their recent setback in the Europa League, while Kilmarnock are determined to halt a troubling sequence of losses that has pushed them down the league standings.
Celtic team news
Celtic’s injury woes have deepened following their 3-1 defeat to Midtjylland on Thursday night in Denmark. Interim boss Martin O’Neill revealed that young forward Callum Osmand suffered a hamstring injury during the match and had to be taken off on a stretcher. The 19-year-old, fresh off scoring in Celtic’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final win over Rangers, underwent a scan on Friday, with O’Neill conceding that the prognosis “doesn’t look good”.
Striker Kelechi Iheanacho is also sidelined due to a hamstring problem picked up in the game against Sturm Graz and is expected to miss several more weeks, putting more responsibility on Johnny Kenny, who has been impressing with goals in each of his last three outings.
On a brighter note, Arne Engels, who was replaced towards the end of the Midtjylland game due to a suspected hamstring issue, received an encouraging update from O’Neill. He said: “He’s a bit sore at the moment. The medical team are hopeful he’ll be alright. It looks more like a stretch rather than a serious injury.”
Meanwhile, long-term absences continue with Cameron Carter-Vickers sidelined by an Achilles injury expected to keep him out for three to five months, while Jota is progressing in his recovery from an ACL injury. Right-back Alistair Johnston is also unavailable with a hamstring strain but is anticipated to return by 22 November against St Mirren. Players Daizen Maeda and Marcelo Saracchi could be in contention after overcoming minor knocks.
