Rangers vs Kilmarnock – Match Preview and Team News

  • Date: Sunday, 26th October.
  • Kick-off: 4pm BST.
  • Venue: Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow.

Rangers Team News

Rangers have Nedim Bajrami available for selection after the midfielder was ineligible to face Brann in the Europa League. The Albanian international could provide creativity as Danny Röhl looks to secure his first win at Ibrox.

Mohamed Diomande remains a doubt having missed recent fixtures. Long-term absentees Rabbi Matondo (knee), Dujon Sterling (Achilles) and Kieran Dowell continue to be sidelined.

Following the 3-0 defeat to Brann, Röhl is expected to make several changes. Youssef Chermiti could be replaced by Bojan Miovski, while Max Aarons may come in at right-back.

Captain James Tavernier blasted the team’s performance in Norway as “disgraceful,” with Röhl apologising to supporters and vowing to “work very hard to bring Rangers back where they have to be”.

Kilmarnock Team News

Kilmarnock have signed striker Tyreece John-Jules on a short-term deal until January. The former Arsenal academy product, highly rated by Mikel Arteta, is eligible for selection at Ibrox.

The signing reinforces the attack following Djenairo Daniels’ season-ending knee injury sustained on international duty. Manager Stuart Kettlewell confirmed Daniels is “likely to be out for the remainder of the season”.

Marley Watkins continues recovering from a heel injury, while Jamie Brandon, Matty Kennedy and Tom Lowery remain unavailable. Kettlewell expects “the best version of Rangers” despite their struggles.

Form

Rangers

Danny Röhl’s tenure began with a 3-0 defeat to Brann in the Europa League, leaving Rangers bottom of the league phase table with no points from three fixtures.

In the Scottish Premiership, Rangers have struggled with just one win from eight matches. They sit sixth with nine points, winless at Ibrox this season after drawing all three home league fixtures. Their recent outing saw them rescue a 2-2 draw with Dundee United thanks to Tavernier’s 87th-minute equaliser.

Röhl stated: “We are part of a big, big club and we have to understand the demanding, and the demanding is winning games”.

Kilmarnock

Stuart Kettlewell’s side sit seventh with 10 points from eight games. Following consecutive 2-0 victories over Dundee United and St Mirren, they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Hearts last time out, with Craig Halkett and Claudio Braga (two) on target.

However, Kilmarnock remain unbeaten on the road in their last five matches across all competitions. They are currently one point ahead of Rangers in the table.

Predicted Lineups

Rangers: Butland; Tavernier, Souttar, Cornelius, Meghoma; Moore, Raskin, Barron, Gassama; Danilo, Miovski.

Kilmarnock: Beach; Mayo, Deas, Williams; Brandon, Watson, Lyons, Kiltie, Thompson; Anderson, Dackers.
