Diego Leon was perhaps the least heralded of Manchester United’s summer transfers.
The left-back linked up with the club from Cerro Porteño, billed as one of the most promising talents in Paraguayan football. Leon, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester United, made his full international debut earlier this month, coming on as a substitute against South Korea.
The 18-year-old has now provided another example of his potential with a brilliant goal for Manchester United’s u-21 side on Saturday afternoon.
Gabriele Biancheri hit a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Progress with Unity Stadium, but it was Leon’s goal that stole the headlines.
Picking up possession inside his own half, the teenager took an individual route to goal, beating two players before cooly converting. The win saw Manchester United’s u-21 side remain top of the table after seven games played so far this term.
