The UEFA Champions League served up some incredible action over the past two nights, so it’s time to reward the best – and worst – of what it had to offer on matchweek three.

Moment of the Week

There is so much to pick through from the midweek action, but one young lad stood out above all else.

In a team full of star talent, 17-year-old Lennart Karl stole the spotlight for himself just four minutes into his first Champions League start for Bayern Munich.

The attacking midfielder surged away from the surrounding Club Brugge players before unleashing a beautiful strike beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.

The stuff of dreams for the teenager.

Player of the Week

Having only recovered from injury last week, Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez returned to the Champions League with a bang on Wednesday to score the first hat-trick of his senior career.

The Spain international could have had a fourth against Olympiacos too, his 48th-minute header forcing a great save from Konstantinos Tzolakis. It was the only bright spot of a terrible night for the Greek goalkeeper, who will be glad to see the back of Lopez.

Goal of the Week

With 71 goals across two nights – the most ever in a single matchweek – how do you pick out just one? Well, Robert Navarro made it a relatively simple decision in the end.

The Athletic Club attacker received the ball on the left flank, shifted the ball onto his right foot and rifled the ball into the top corner of the Qarabag net. Exquisite.

Assist of the Week

Nick Pope briefly became a quarterback on Wednesday evening, launching the ball roughly 65 yards with one arm in the direction of Harvey Barnes, who did the rest. The winger sent the ball in off the far post to double Newcastle’s lead as they went on to beat Jose Mourinho’s Benfica 3-0 at St. James’ Park.

Save of the week

The Spurs net live a charmed life on Wednesday as Monaco created chance after chance on Wednesday. They never managed to breach it thanks to Guglielmo Vicario, who made eight saves. The highlight of them came in the 74th minute when the Italian reacted quickly to stop a point blank header from Jordan Teze.

Howler of the Week

Galatasaray followed up their matchday two win over Liverpool with a dominant victory of Bodo/Glimt. The Turkish outfit were outstanding in the first half and needed no help carving out opportunities.

But Frederik Andre Bjorkan gifted them their second goal of the night, mindlessly passing the ball straight to Victor Osimhen who proceeded to round the goalkeeper.

Stat of the Week

Arsenal are simply an immovable object when playing at home in the Champions League. Their impressive 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid was the Gunners’ ninth successive home clean sheet in the competition’s group stage or league phase, the first time a team has ever done so. Since returning to Europe’s premier tournament in 2023, they have won their nine home group games by an aggregate scoreline of 27-0. Impenetrable.
