Ange Postecoglou praised the performance from his players as Tottenham earned a 2-0 win at Brentford in the Premier League.
Spurs snapped a run of seven league games without a win with a disciplined display at the Gtech Community Stadium. The visitors took the lead when Vitaly Janelt diverted Heung-min Son’s corner over his own line, but Spurs rode their luck throughout in West London.
After weathering significant pressure from the home side, Pape Matar Sarr raced onto Son’s pass to settle the game late on. Victory was Tottenham’s first in the Premier League since December 15th.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Postecoglou was pleased with how his side handled the challenge, calling Brentford a ‘difficult place’ to get three points.
“It is a difficult place to come and win at,” he said.
“It’s also a difficult place to win with the way they attack and set up; you have to defend your box. You’re just going to have to do that.
“I thought the lads handled that awfully well and we knew it was going to be key for us and the lads were brilliant and we felt we had the quality of football to hurt them the other way. Credit to the boys, they were brilliant.”
A positive day for Spurs began earlier on Sunday with the announcement of Kevin Danso’s arrival from Lens. Spurs have signed the centre-back in a €25m deal and Postecoglou believes the 26-year-old is a great fit for his squad.
“Great to get Kevin [Danso] in. We desperately need a defender and getting him is great, he is a great fit for us.
“He has had a strong career but he wants to kick on. He is strong, quick, dynamic and wants to play on the ball. He is determined to kick on and make an impact.”
