Swansea 1-0 Liverpool – Player Ratings

Carlos Carvalhal’s Swansea side held out for a much needed 1-0 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium tonight. Let’s see how the players rated …

Swansea

Fabianski 8

Excellent. Made a string of decent saves and commanded his area brilliantly.

Naughton 7

A little sloppy in possession at times, but put in one crucial tackle at the back post at the start of the second-half.

van der Hoorn 8

Blocked and tackled his heart out all night.

Fernandez 8

Played his part in a brilliant rear guard action by the home side.

Mawson 9 ( MOTM )

Superb. Scored the winner with a tidy finish and made a vital block with just seconds remaining.

Olsson 7

Did well against Salah, and put in a couple of decent balls in attack.

Dyer 7

Worked hard and held up the ball well on a few occasions.

Fer 7

Can be frustrating at times, although he got through a mountain of work for his side and kept possession well when needed.

Ki Sung-yueng 7

His passing ability helped the Swans break free of Liverpools high press, particularly in the first-half.

Clucas 7

Another midfield player who gave everything for the cause.

Ayew 7

A couple of decent touches and turns kept Liverpools defenders on their toes.

Substitutes

Bony 7

Used his strength to hold up the ball and waste time at the end.

Carroll 7

Got stuck in after his introduction and helped his side see out the result.

Liverpool

Karius 5

Had no chance with the goal and didn’t really do anything wrong, although you can sense the tension from Liverpool fans and players every time the ball goes near him.

Gomez 6

A talented boy no doubt, but he can be a little naive at times.

Matip 5

Another who just doesn’t quite convince as a top-six Premier League player. Looks more like a basketball player.

van Dijk 6

Didn’t cover himself in glory for Swansea goal. Handled pretty much everything else with relative ease, and played one superb through ball to Salah in first-half.

Robertson 6

Put in a couple of decent balls, from which he could of expected better from his team-mates.

Can 6

Solid if unspectacular at the base of midfield.

Wijnaldum 5

As so often is the case in away games, just didn’t do enough.

Salah 6

Missed a good chance in the first-half, and in general no where near the ridiculously high standards he has set so far this season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7

Another encouraging display in the centre of the park by the England international.

 Mané 6

Missed a golden chance on the stroke of half-time.

Firmino 6

Another Liverpool forward who missed a big chance. Planted his header off the post from six yards out with seconds left on the clock.

Substitutes

Ings 7

Brought some much needed energy to his sides attack after his introduction and went close with a decent left footed effort.

Lallana 6

Pushed and probed but was unable to prise open a stubborn Swansea defence.
