Simons makes ‘unacceptable’ Spurs admission following Burnley draw

Xavi Simons admitted that the two goals Spurs conceded against Burnley on Saturday were “not acceptable” as the team continues to struggle for form.

Micky van de Ven put Tottenham ahead at Turf Moor in the first half, but his opener was cancelled out in stoppage time by Axel Tuanzebe.

Lyle Foster gave the Clarets the lead with 15 minutes left on the clock to put them within reach of a much needed victory, but Cristian Romero equalised late on to ensure the Lilywhites went home with a point.

“We wanted to win and the two goals we conceded are not acceptable,” Simons told Premier League Productions. “It’s a shame but we have to go on.

“In general, yes [we deserved to win], but you have to win here – even if the keeper has a great match. We have to score those goals and we have to win.”

He continued: “We cannot concede this goal one minute before half-time and the second goal as well, I think we can avoid this.”

On Spurs fighting back to earn a draw, Simons added: “We know how good we are on set pieces and crosses, and the two centre-backs Micky and Cristian are good there. Really good.

“The only solution is to keep working. That’s how we do it.”
