Willian: Chelsea need to be more clinical

Chelsea matchwinner Willian has said that he and his teammates must be more clinical following today’s 2-1 win over Newcastle.

In usual Maurizio Sarri style, Chelsea dominated the ball against the struggling Magpies, but as has been the case in recent weeks, they struggled to find a way through the well-drilled defence.

Pedro gave Chelsea an early lead, but they were pegged back by a Ciaran Clark equaliser five minutes before the break, with only Willian’s fine 57th-minute strike sealing the victory for the Blues.

Speaking after the game, the match-winning Brazillian said that while the three points were the most important aspect of the game, they must become more clinical on the ball and in front of goal.

“I think it’s always difficult in the Premier League. We have to be more clinical. Today we couldn’t do that but we have the quality to do it in the next games,” Willian told BT Sport.

“But I think the character was good and the most important is to win the game.

“I scored a good goal. I found the space and put the ball exactly where I wanted.”

The result solidifies Chelsea’s place in the top four following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham.
