Micky van de Ven is having some season at Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutch defender has scored six times in all competitions already this season after netting in the club’s 4-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Not only is Van de Ven the leading scorer among all centre-backs across Europe’s major leagues, he’s also Spurs’ top scorer.
For context, his six goals are as many as forwards Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike have managed, following their respective big-money moves to Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.
Van de Ven’s latest goal was something special. Picking up possession on the edge of his own area, the 24-year-old charged the length of the pitch before firing home.
Is there another centre-back in world football that can do this? Unlikely.
