Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he voted for Man City attacker Raheem Sterling as his pick for PFA Player of the Year.
Sterling has netted a superb 15 goals and nine assists in 28 Premier League appearances so far this season, and despite City currently being embroiled in a fascinating title race with Liverpool, Van Dijk feels the England international deserves his vote due to how much he has improved as a player.
“I voted for Raheem Sterling. I did what I thought and I thought he deserves it,” Van Dijk told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Porto tonight.
“He’s had a fantastic season. I could have voted for Bernardo Silva as well and another couple of players from City.
“But I am just being honest. I think he has improved a lot as a player. We will see if he wins it.”
However, Van Dijk has been imperious at the back for title-chasing Liverpool this season, and is the overwhelming favourite to win the prestigious award.
