Virgil van Dijk claimed that he was fouled in the lead up to Bournemouth’s late winner over Liverpool at Dean Court on Saturday evening.
Amine Adli swooped in at the near post deep into stoppage time to earn all three points for the Cherries after giving up a two-goal lead in the second half.
Evanilson struck home early to put the hosts ahead after Van Dijk failed to clear his lines before Alex Jimenez doubled their lead shortly afterwards.
Liverpool‘s captain pulled one back on the stroke of halftime and Dominik Szoboszlai appeared to have saved a point with a superb free kick in the 80th minute. But were left empty handed when Adli came out on top of a goalmouth scramble.
Van Dijk cries foul as Bournemouth beat Liverpool at the death
Van Dijk complained that he was fouled, but it appears that his own teammate – Curtis Jones – was the one who collided with him.
“What I felt on that pitch was that I was clearly blocked,” he told Sky Sports. “The referee and the VAR don’t give it.
“We will have to accept it. I can stand here and say it should not be given but it was. It is what it is.”

Liverpool were down to 10 men when Bournemouth scored their second goal, as Joe Gomez had to leave the pitch with an injury and no replacement had yet been sent on.
“We were with 10 men, you can argue that we have to kick the ball out,” Van Dijk added. “It’s not on Alisson. It’s easy to say he should have done this. It is a split second.
“We decided to keep the ball as we had possession and unfortunately for us we conceded. Losing never feels good, especially as a Liverpool player.”
