Dmytro Bogdanov is sidelined as well due to a muscle injury. Robert Skov is not available as well, and Tim Karke won’t be back in the squad before early February.

Borussia Dortmund team news

Captain Emre Can will lead the Dortmund contingent after scoring the dramatic stoppage-time penalty in their 3-2 victory over FC St. Pauli on 18th January. English midfielder Jobe Bellingham replaces Sabitzer in the central midfield role, whilst Julian Brandt—who opened the scoring against St. Pauli—provides creative support alongside Karim Adeyemi.

Forward Fabio Silva will lead the attacking line, with the creative burden shared between Brandt and attacking midfielder options. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel continues between the posts, supported by a back three featuring Waldemar Anton, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Emre Can.

Form

Union Berlin

Steffen Baumgart’s side extended their unbeaten run to five league matches, though their recent form has produced three consecutive draws. The hosts secured a point in Stuttgart with a 1-1 stalemate on 18th January, where Jeong’s late equaliser salvaged a result after Chris Führich’s 59th-minute opener.

Borussia Dortmund

Niko Kovač’s side maintained its exceptional league form with an 11-match unbeaten streak heading into the weekend fixture. The Black & Yellows’ last match produced a dramatic 3-2 home victory over St. Pauli that demonstrated their capacity for late heroics, with Julian Brandt’s 45’+1′ opener setting the platform for Adeyemi’s 54th-minute second goal before the remarkable comeback.
