Manchester United have been linked with making a move for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, and as usual, the good people of Twitter have responded.
The January window has already been open for a week, but aside from Chelsea‘s move for Christian Pulisic, there hasn’t been too much to shout about on the transfer front.
However, if you want to make a transfer story go viral, one surefire recipe is to include Manchester United in the headline and throw in a bit of controversy, and there isn’t much more of a controversial story than United wanting to sign a former Liverpool fan favourite.
However, a quick look through twitter this afternoon shows that the Old Trafford faithful are pretty used to their club being used as a pawn to sell papers, and their fans certainly don’t look to be believing these latest transfer rumours…
Yeh ok Coutinho to United, you're havin a laugh ????????????
Who makes this shit up?? #SillySeason #MUFC— Nelson (@AzumaNelson) January 7, 2019
Coutinho to United?
I sniff bullshit
Who wants him anyways?
He decent but unless he's improved massively since he left Liverpool he's not for me. We got martial, Rashford and Alexis all playing LW already.
Better going for 1 or 2 quality CB— Phil Howarth (@PhilHowarth) January 7, 2019
I don't believe for 1 minute united want Coutinho but the reaction by Liverpool fans is brilliant
"He's crap now anyway" ????????????— Liam Whelan (@liam11) January 7, 2019

Caught Offside linking #MUFC to Philippe Coutinho. Just when I thought Don Balon is is the worst source ever, they decide to spoil the party with their news.
The transfer window is well and truly open, ladies and gents.

As a player that predominantly plays on the left wing or in midfield, this Twitter user correctly pointed out that it is not an area of Manchester United’s squad that it is in need of attention…
Coutinho to United??! No thanks, we have got plenty of quality in the area of the pitch he plays in. We need defenders and a defensive midfielder. #MUFC

However, if he did move to Old Trafford, its fair to say he would burn his bridges with Liverpool fans…

While the reports have been picked up by some of the biggest news outlets around, they haven’t given them too much backing, with a number of journalists saying they simply are not true.
So a ‘transfer website’ creates a story suggesting Manchester United are trying to sign Philippe Coutinho and so-called ‘real’ journalists report it as reality? I give up ????????♂️ #MUFC

It’s safe to say that people think that is just another one of those BS transfer stories…
