Tottenham Hotspur return from the international break looking to extend their unbeaten run. However, they face a tricky home fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday.
While Spurs currently sit third in the table, their form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been alarmingly poor over the past year. In fact, this represents their worst home run in the Premier League era.
Manager Thomas Frank must also contend with a growing injury list, particularly in midfield, where Yves Bissouma’s absence is a significant blow. On a positive note, the potential return of Randal Kolo Muani offers a welcome boost to their attacking options. Personally, Frank will also be looking to secure his first-ever managerial victory over Unai Emery at the sixth attempt.
Tottenham team news
Thomas Frank’s midfield options are significantly depleted following a major injury to Yves Bissouma, sustained on international duty. Ben Davies has also been ruled out. Unfortunately, they join long-term absentees James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski on the sidelines.
There is more positive news up front, however. Randal Kolo Muani has returned to full training and is available for selection. Richarlison is expected to lead the line. He will likely receive support from the creative talents of Mohammed Kudus, the league’s leading dribbler, and Xavi Simons. In midfield, Pape Matar Sarr is likely to deputise in the attacking midfield role.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup
Tottenham Hotspur predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Sarr, Simons; Richarlison
