Tottenham Hotspur have joined AC Milan in making an approach to sign Manchester City centre-back Manuel Akanji.
Akanji is expected to leave Manchester City before Monday’s transfer deadline with several sides chasing his signature.
He was not included in the squad to face Spurs in the Premier League last weekend as he explores an exit after three seasons at the Etihad.
Galatasaray had agreed a £15m fee with the Citizens for the Switzerland international, though Akanji is yet to give the green light to that move. AC Milan are also prepared to meet the asking price and are in discussions with Akanji over personal terms.
The two teams now face competition from Tottenham, who have approached Manchester City over a deal.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the 30-year-old is one of three names on the North London side’s shortlist as Spurs look to bolster their defensive options before the transfer deadline.

Spurs have loaned out youngster Luka Vuskovic to German side Hamburg for the season, while Radu Dragusin is still recovering from an ACL issue.
Crystal Palace have also been named as suitors, amid interest from Liverpool in captain Marc Guehi. The Eagles face a difficult task to convince Akanji, however, given the interest in his services from Champions League clubs.
