After the Newcastle game, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: “Sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal.

“That’s what we got today. It looks like with Madders a bad injury and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son (Heung-min) from his team-mates and the respect from the Newcastle players.

“We’re pretty sure it was the same knee he injured before.”

Maddison has scored 16 goals and produced 19 assists in all competitions since Joining Spurs from Leicester City for a £40 million transfer fee in 2023. However, the England international’s time at the club has been blighted by injury issues, including missing the UEFA Europa League final win over Manchester United in May with a knee problem.
