Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says he ‘knew’ Eden Hazard wanted to leave the club.
Hazard suggested he had played his final game for Chelsea after scoring twice in their 4-1 Europa League final win over Arsenal, saying post-match to BT Sport that he thinks ‘it’s a goodbye but in football you never know’.
The Belgian has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, with Sarri admitting he was aware of the 28-year-old’s desire to leave Chelsea after seven seasons at Stamford Bridge.
“As you know Hazard is a wonderful player, but you have to spend two or three months to understand him as a man. When you are able to understand him as a man, he is a wonderful man,” Sarri said in his post-match press conference.
“I knew Eden wanted to leave, but as I have said in every press conference, I wanted to respect his decision.”
If that was Eden Hazard’s last game for #CFC, then it’s been a pretty special career ????????????
