Rice ‘can’t put it into words’ feeling of scoring West Ham’s winner against Arsenal

West Ham United’s Declan Rice was absolutely delighted after being his sides matchwinner in today’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Rice scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to give the Hammers three points to move them above Wolves and Watford into eighth in the Premier League table.

The goal was the first that Rice had scored in his professional career, and speaking after the game, the 19-year-old couldn’t hide his delight

“I can’t put it into words. The lads are always on at me to take the shot on more. I have been getting into the box more recently and I was gutted with missing the header in the first half,” Rice told Sky Sports.

“I can’t speak highly enough about Mark [Noble], he has helped me every day since I broke into the team three years ago with little pointers in training and whatever.”

Rice has been utilised as a defensive midfielder this season under West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, despite coming through the ranks as a central defender, and has been targetted by a number of top clubs including Man City and Man Utd.
