PSV Eindhoven vs Bayern Munich – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Wednesday, 28th January.
  • Kick-off: 8pm BST.
  • Venue: Philips Stadion, Eindhoven.

PSV Eindhoven team news

The hosts will be without several key players. Ricardo Pepi remains out with a broken arm that will keep him sidelined until mid-March. Nick Olij, Myron Boadu, Ruben van Bommel, and Alassane Plea are all doubtful with various injuries. Left-back Anass Salah-Eddine departed early from the Newcastle fixture with an injury before the interval.

Guus Til is also sidelined until mid-February at the very least, and Yarik Gasiorowski is suspended for this fixture due to accumulating multiple yellow cards in previous UCL fixtures.

Bayern Munich team news

Head coach Vincent Kompany faces multiple injury concerns while heading into Wednesday’s clash. Minjae Kim is suspended following accumulated yellow cards, whilst Raphaël Guerreiro is sidelined with a calf strain.

Dayot Upamecano is doubtful due to illness, and Serge Gnabry is also a doubt after picking up an infection. Konrad Laimer suffered a calf injury and remains unavailable, as does Josip Stanišić with an injury to his right ankle.

Tom Bischof may be given an opportunity in the right back role unless Kompany wants to use a more experienced player in which case Joshua Kimmich might come into that place.

Harry Kane will be eager to add to his goal tally of seven in the Champions League. Luis Diaz and Michael Olise will provide the attacking support while Lennart Karl or Jamal Musiala might be used in the attacking midfield role if Gnabry remains unavailable.

Form

PSV Eindhoven

Peter Bosz’s outfit has shown different form across competitions. Domestically, they are the leaders in the Eredivisie with 53 points from 20 matches, but their Champions League campaign has proven significantly more challenging.

They are currently sitting at 22nd positon with eight points from seven games and they need a win against Bayern to make sure they get to the playoff stage.

Bayern Munich

Bayern’s unbeaten Bundesliga run came to an unexpected halt against Augsburg as they lost 1-2, but their overall form remains exceptional.

The club has achieved the best first-half season record in Bundesliga history with 50 points and a goal difference of plus-57 after just 18 matches. In the Champions League, Bayern have lost only once—to Arsenal—and is second in the competition with 18 points.

Predicted lineups

PSV Eindhoven: Kovar; Flamingo, Schouten, Gasiorowski, Fernandez; Veerman, Junior; Perisic, Saibari, Driouech; Wanner.

Bayern Munich: Neuer; Bischof, Ito, Tah, Davies; Pavlovic, Kimmich; Olise, Musiala, Diaz; Kane.
