PSG vs Flamengo – Match preview and team news

PSG will face Brazilian champions Flamengo in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final on Wednesday.

Both sides will be searching for a prestigious world title that pits Europe’s finest against South America’s dominant force in 2025.

PSG vs Flamengo – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Wednesday, 17th December.
  • Kick-off: 5pm BST.
  • Venue: Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan.

PSG team news

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has some injury concerns heading into the final. Captain Marquinhos remains sidelined with a hip injury and will not feature against Flamengo. Right-back Achraf Hakimi is also ruled out with an ankle sprain sustained earlier in December and faces a race against time to recover before Africa Cup of Nations duties.

Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé has returned to training after recovering from a viral illness that forced him to miss PSG’s scoreless Champions League draw with Athletic Bilbao in midweek. However, his status remains uncertain, as he has limited match fitness this season due to recurring injuries.

However, Luis Enrique has only used Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as substitutes in recent Ligue 1 fixtures, while resting Joao Neves in the same matches, and all three are expected to feature in the final.

Flamengo team news

Flamengo head coach Filipe Luís has confirmed a fully fit squad available for selection, with no major injuries hampering preparations. Allan was notably absent from the squad traveling to Qatar, but the Brazilian giants have otherwise maintained full availability through their intensive 2025 campaign.

The Rio de Janeiro club arrive in Doha having already played 77 matches this season across multiple competitions, including their triumphant Copa Libertadores and Brasileirão campaigns. However, this fixture congestion has not dampened Flamengo’s ambitions—they seek their first Intercontinental Cup since 1981, when they defeated Liverpool.

Form

PSG

PSG currently sit second in Ligue 1, just one point behind leaders Lens. They recently won 3-2 against the bottom-placed team, Metz, in the Ligue 1.

They have scored 13 goals in their last five matches across all competitions, but during this period, they failed to score twice. Once against Monaco in Ligue 1 and also against Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League.

Flamengo

Filipe Luís’ side concluded the 2025 Brasileirão as champions with commanding statistics. Flamengo finished top of the league with 23 wins, 10 draws, and five defeats across 38 matches, scoring 78 goals and conceding just 27—the best defensive record in the competition. Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta led the team with 18 goals in the league, second after the Golden Boot winner, Kaio Jorge of Cruzeiro.

Additionally, Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores in 2025, defeating all challengers to secure the South American championship before entering the Intercontinental Cup, in which they won 2-0 against Pyramids FC to enter the final.

Predicted lineups

PSG: Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Beraldo, Marquinhos, Mendes; Vitinha; Neves, Kang-in; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Flamengo: Rossi; Varela, Danilo, Pereira, Lucas; Pulgar, Jorginho; Carrascal, de Arrascaeta, Everton; Plata.
