Following the latest round of Premier League action, we look at the division’s stat leaders after Matchday Eight.
Goals: Erling Haaland (8)
A familiar face tops the Premier League for goals after eight games, with Erling Haaland leading the race for the Golden Boot. Haaland scored a record-breaking 36 league goals as Manchester City won the title last season and is heading towards another Golden Boot after eight goals in eight games.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Spurs’ Son Heung-min are Haaland’s nearest challenges on six goals each, while West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen, three-time Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah and Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan are a further goal back (5).
3 – Erling Haaland scored three second-half goals against Fulham, the third time he’s scored a single-half hat-trick in the Premier League. In the competition’s history, only Andrew Cole (5) has scored three goals in a half on more occasions. Rampage. pic.twitter.com/9gXgTXm045

Assists: Pedro Neto, James Maddison, Kieran Trippier (5)
James Maddison’s stunning start at Spurs continued with another assist on Matchday Eight, with the midfielder showing fine footwork before setting up Micky van de Ven for the north London side’s winner at Luton.

Pedro Neto – who has had a renaissance at Wolves this season – and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier also each have five assists, while Vladimir Coufal, Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins are all grouped behind on four assists for the campaign to date.
Clean Sheets: Sam Johnstone (4)
No goalkeeper in the Premier League has kept more clean sheets this season than Sam Johnstone, who was excellent as Crystal Palace battled to a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest on Matchday Eight.
Johnstone – who has been made Palace’s first-choice goalkeeper this season despite the arrival of Dean Henderson from Manchester United – is back in the England set-up and will compete with Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale for a place during October’s international break.
Robert Sanchez, Ederson, Guglielmo Vicario, Nick Pope, David Raya and Bernd Leno each have three shut outs.
Yellow cards: Anthony Gordon, Nicolas Jackson, Aaron Hickey (5)
Brentford full-back Aaron Hickey became the third Premier League player to pick up a yellow card suspension this season, after receiving his fifth caution of the campaign against Manchester United on Matchday Eight.
He follows Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson in accumulating five yellow cards already this season.
Passes: Lewis Dunk (756)
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi demands his side play out progressively from the back and Lewis Dunk leads the league for passes so far this season.
Dunk topped the Premier League with a whopping 3,208 passes in 2022/23 and is again at the forefont of Brighton’s philosophy. Four centre-backs top the chart, with Chelsea duo Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi and Manchester City’s Ruben Dias the most prolific passers in the league.
Dias’ Man City teammate, midfield metronome Rodri, is fifth despite missing the last two league games through suspension.
Shots: Erling Haaland (32)
The league’s leading scorer has also taken more shots than any other Premier League player.
Haaland has fired 32 efforts on goal, one more than Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. Eberechi Eze (27), Mohamed Salah (26) and Bruno Fernandes (25) complete the top five.
Big chances missed: Erling Haaland (9)
Another statistic Erling Haaland leads, but perhaps not one he will be overly proud of. The Norwegian goal-machine has missed nine big chances this season, more than any other player.
Nicolas Jackson (7) is second after a mixed start at Chelsea, while Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkns (7), Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez (6) and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen (6) will also hope to improve on their wastefulness around goal.
Tackles: Marvelous Nakamba (36)
Marvelous Nakamba has been the top tackler in the Premier League this season, as part of a Luton Town team competing in England’s top flight for the first time since 1991/92.
Nakamba signed for the Hatters from Aston Villa during the summer after a successful loan spell last season and leads last season’s leader, Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, for tackles in 2023/24.
Yves Bissouma, who has been in brilliant form for table-topping Tottenham, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta have also each recorded 25+ tackles after eight Premier League games.
Saves:ย Wes Foderingham (45)
Wes Foderingham has been comfortably the busiest goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, making nine more saves than nearest challenger Jose Sa.
Sheffield United are bottom of the division and have conceded a league-high 22 goals, despite Foderingham’s 45 saves this season.
