Martin Odegaard insists the Premier League title remains in Arsenal’s hands despite the club’s draw at West Ham.
Arsenal dropped points for the second successive Premier League fixture after surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at the London Stadium, with goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen completing a comeback for the Hammers.
The Gunners had raced into a two-goal lead inside ten minutes, as Gabriel Jesus and Odegaard put the visitors in control. However, Arsenal could not hang onto their advantage having also squandered a 2-0 lead to draw with Liverpool last weekend.
“A lot of the same things to last week, started well but then we stopped, allowed them to play on their qualities,” Odegaard told Sky Sports.
”We gave them the game they wanted, we gave them hope, and that’s on us. We have to look forward now.
“We started to do a lot of stupid things on the ball, we allowed them to play on the long balls.”
Bukayo Saka missed a penalty for Arsenal with the Gunners’ leading 2-1 and the draw means Manchester City have reduced the gap to four points, with a game-in-hand on Mikel Arteta’s side.
Odegaard discussed Saka’s missed penalty, as the winger missed the target entirely with a poor effort from the spot. It was the 21-year-old’s first penalty miss in the Premier League.
“These things happen, he has been brilliant all season and been clinical from the spot. But today was not the day for him. We win and lose together.”
Despite the dropped points, Odegaard insists Arsenal’s title hopes remain in their own hands. The Gunners host Southampton next weekend, before their crucial trip to face Manchester City on April 26.
“We have to remember we are still top of the league with everything in our own hands. The same mindset, same mentality to make sure we win the next one.”
