Next Nottingham Forest manager: Dyche favourite to replace Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest are searching for a new manager after the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian has been dismissed after just 39 days, following a failure to win any of his eight games in charge. It leaves Forest with a major decision to make, as the club hover precariously above the Premier League relegation places.

We’ve looked at the bookmakers’ favourites to become the next Nottingham Forest manager.

Next Nottingham Forest manager odds

Kieran McKenna – 14/1

The former Manchester United assistant built his reputation as a senior coach at Ipswich Town, leading the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

The latter jump proved a bridge too far as Ipswich were relegated last season, but McKenna made The Tractor Boys a competitive outfit. Still just 39, McKenna could offer Forest a potential long-term option, while his reputation for improving young players appeals.

Danny Rohl – 14/1

Having turned down the chance to take charge at Rangers, Rohl remains available for interested clubs. The 36-year-old impressed at Sheffield Wednesday but has limited experience as a senior manager. The bulk of his coaching career has been spent as an assistant, working at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich, and with the Germany national team.

Jose Mourinho – 12/1

Jose Mourinho would be a box-office appointment for Forest and is available after being sacked at Fenerbahce earlier this season. A three-time Premier League champion and two-time Champions League winner, his credentials are clear even if the glory years of his managerial career have perhaps passed. Putting the ‘Special One’ in alongside the outspoken Evangelos Marinakis could be pure cinema.

Marco Silva – 4/1

A coach Marinakis knows well, having won the Greek Super League title during a single-season spell at Olympiacos in 2015/16. His consolidation of Fulham after a yo-yo period is respected, while there’s a feeling Silva was frustrated by the club’s summer business.

Though on the surface it appears a sideward step, Marinakis has shown he is prepared to back his managers. That could appeal to Silva as he looks to progress forward.

Sean Dyche – 4/5

The early favourite with the bookmakers. Dyche came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest but departed without making a first-team appearance.

The ex-Burnley and Everton manager would not be a glamorous appointment, but he has built a reputation as a no-nonsense firefighter. He’s well-versed in survival battles, and a pragmatic approach is certainly closer to Nuno Espirito Santo than Postecoglou ever was.
