Newcastle consider Premier League alternative to Wissa

Newcastle United have discussed the prospect of signing Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, if a deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa can not be agreed.

Eddie Howe’s side have had an opening offer rejected for Wissa, with Brentford reluctant to lose the striker after the sales of Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo.

The Bees have placed a £50m valuation on the 29-year-old, a fee the Magpies are unwilling to meet. Wissa is understood to be unhappy with Brentford over an apparent u-turn on a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for £26m this summer.

Newcastle have communicated their willingness to spend more than £60m on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but want to sign two forwards amid Callum Wilson’s exit and Alexander Isak’s desire for a move away from St James’ Park.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Jackson is a player under consideration. His name has been discussed internally at Newcastle as a potential market opportunity.

Chelsea are not actively looking to offload the Senegal international but will consider bids following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer.

At 24, Jackson is viewed as a longer-term alternative to Wissa and would arrive with Premier League experience. He has scored 30 goals in 81 games for Chelsea since joining the club from Villarreal in 2023.

Chelsea would demand a substantial profit on the £32m paid to sign the forward from the Spanish side.
