Manchester United are closing in on new deal for Kobbie Mainoo after productive talks with the midfielder’s representatives.
Mainoo has been a key figure in the club’s resurgence under Michael Carrick, having returned to regular action after struggling to convince former manager Ruben Amorim.
The 20-year-old’s performances have seen him recalled to the England squad this month for March’s fixtures against Uruguay and Japan. It’s the midfielder’s first call-up in over 18 months having last represented the Three Lions in September 2024.
United opened talks with Mainoo over a new deal in January, following the exit of Amorim. Fabrizio Romano has reported that an agreement is close on a contract that will run until 2031.
Though the deal is not done, there is optimism from Manchester United that terms will be finalised. Mainoo’s deal will mark a significant turn around for the player who had been expected to leave in the January window, prior to Amorim’s dismissal.
